What are cookies

Cookies are small text strings that the sites visited by the user send to its terminal (usually to the browser), where they are stored and then transmitted back to the same sites the next time the same user visits.

During the navigation of a site, the user can also receive cookies on his terminal that are sent from different sites or web servers (see “third parties”), on which some elements (such as images, maps, sounds, specific links to other domains) on the site that you are visiting.

Two macro-categories are identified: “technical” cookies and “profiling” cookies.

(a) Technical cookies are those used for the sole purpose of “transmitting a communication over an electronic communication network, or to the extent strictly necessary to the provider of an information company service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide such a service” (Article 122, paragraph 1, of the Personal Data Protection Code). They are not used for further purposes and are normally installed directly by the owner or manager of the website. They can be divided into navigation or session cookies, which guarantee the normal navigation and use of the website (allowing, for example, to make a purchase or authenticate to access restricted areas); cookie analytics, assimilated to technical cookies where used directly by the site manager to collect information, in aggregate, about the number of users and how they visit the site itself; feature cookies, which allow the user to navigate according to a set of selected criteria (for example, language, products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service rendered to the same. For the installation of such cookies, the prior consent of the users is not required, while the obligation to give the information under art remains firm. 13 of the Personal Data Protection Code, which the site manager, if you use only those devices, will be able to provide in the manner that you deem most appropriate.

b) Profiling cookies Profiling cookies are aimed at creating user-related profiles and are used in order to send advertisements in line with the preferences expressed by the user in the context of network browsing. European and Italian law requires that the user should be adequately informed about the use of them and thus express his valid consent. They are referred to by art. 122 of the Code where it states that “the storage of information in the terminal device of a contractor or user or access to information already stored is permitted only on the condition that the contractor or user has expressed his or her consent after being informed in the simplified ways in Article 13, paragraph 3”. (Article 122, paragraph 1, of the Personal Data Protection Code). Our cookies allow us, for example, to: – store the preferences you enter – avoid re-entering the same information several times during the visit such as username and password – analyze the use of the services and content provided for optimize its browsing experience and the services offered0.
